WDE Pro Equine Dental Endoscope
Protecting the shaft and lens tip
The shaft and lens tip contain sensitive components and must be protected from impact and crushing damage
Cold environments (condensation and performance)
In cold conditions, keep the handpiece and shaft warm before and during use. Avoid rapid temperature changes that may cause condensation/fogging and reduce image quality.
Cleaning & disinfection (between horses)
Only the shaft is waterproof/immersible. The camera housing/handpiece and coupling connection is splash-proof (IPX6) but must NOT be immersed.
For best results, always clean first, then disinfect.
1) Wipe immediately (chairside)
- Wipe visible saliva/debris from the shaft with a damp disposable wipe.
- Keep the handpiece as dry as possible and prevent fluids tracking towards the coupling.
2) Clean:
Shaft (immersible):
- Wash with neutral detergent (or enzymatic detergent) using a soft cloth/soft brush.
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Do not soak for prolonged periods.
Camera housing/handpiece (IPX6, not immersible):
- Wipe-clean only (cloth dampened with mild detergent solution).
- Wipe again with a clean damp cloth to remove detergent residue.
- Keep fluids away from seams/ports and the coupling.
3) Disinfect
Shaft:
- Disinfect by immersion using a suitable veterinary/medical disinfectant, following the manufacturer’s dilution and contact time.
Camera housing/handpiece:
- Disinfect by wipe method only.
- Avoid fluid pooling around buttons, seams, connectors/ports.
4) Dry, separate, and protect the connection
- If your disinfectant requires rinsing, rinse the shaft after disinfection.
- Dry with a lint-free cloth and allow to air-dry fully.
- Separate the shaft from the handpiece after cleaning, and wipe the coupling surfaces with a soft, lint-free cloth to ensure no moisture is present.
- Store the WDE Pro clean, dry, and protected.
- In the event of the shaft becoming seized in the housing do not force apart - warming the shaft while cooling the housing and gentle pressure usually results in release.
If there is blood / pus / heavy contamination
- Repeat the cleaning step, then use longer contact time or a higher-level disinfection approach as per your disinfectant label and local protocol
DO
✅ Clean before disinfecting
✅ Immerse shaft only (avoid prolonged soaking)
✅ Wipe-disinfect the camera housing/handpiece (IPX6) and keep ports/seams/coupling dry

✅ Separate shaft after use and wipe coupling/mating surfaces dry before storage
DON’T
⛔ Don’t immerse the camera housing/handpiece
⛔ Don’t leave WDE Pro end/tip down in a bucket
⛔ Don’t allow water/blood to run down the shaft into the camera housing/coupling
⛔ Don’t drop/knock the shaft or rest it on hard surfaces
